Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Former Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador (R) H.E. Feridun Hadi Sinirlioğlu has been appointed as Special Coordinator by the UN Secretary-General for the independent assessment process on Afghanistan mandated by the UN Security Council Resolution 2679 (2023).

Given the importance we attach to the engagement of the international community for resolving the issues in Afghanistan, we welcome the appointment of Ambassador H.E. Sinirlioğlu to this position.

Having historical and cultural ties with Afghanistan, Türkiye will continue to support the efforts on Afghanistan within the scope of the UN, and Special Coordinator Ambassador H.E. Sinirlioğlu undoubtedly will make a significant contribution to these efforts.
